kill-a-watt?
I purchased the kill a watt to test electricity/drainage, I don't understand how to read it and what it means
argh, the directions are crappy
I dont get how to tel how much I'm spending with the waste. I do understand the diff setting but Im unclear as to what they tell me
I use one myself. Which one did you get? I have the P3. What is it you wish to know? One setting tells you the volts of the circuit, one tells you the amps of whatever is plugged in to it, another tells you the watts being consumed, another for the cycles (silly), and the other will tell you the kilowatt hours and time. That is the one that is most useful.
Take the total time it reads out and divide that into 720 (hours in 30 days). Multiply that times the KWH reading. That tells you how many kilowatt hours something uses per month on average. Multiply that by your kilowatt hour charge from the power company (mine is $.09) and you get a cost for running that item for a month.
I leave it on something for around 72 hours to get an average. Say for a freezer. Mine uses 140 watts when it runs. 1.16 amps. It used 7.4 kilowatt hours in that 72 hours. Of course it doesn't run constant. I multiplied by 10 (720 hours in a month) to get 74 kilowatt hours per month. I multiplied that by $.09 to find my freezer costs around $6.66 to run for 30 days.
If you need more help, feel free to email me. I'd be happy to help.
