I have a double box with a dbl plug (always hot)+switch on other side for lights. How do I tap a GFCI into it?
The new box is right next to existing box. I tapped from existing box (with plug and switch) but GFCI will not reset. I do not need to piggie back existing plugs on the GFCI. I just need the new GFCI for outdoor fountain. What is the correct way to wire this.
A GFCI needs to be wired correctly for it to work. you need to wire it so that LINE and LOAD are wired respectively, with proper polarity and have a good ground.
Line wired to the proper terminals, white to white, black to black and a secure ground back to the breaker box or load center.
you can not put two GFCI on the same circuit, they will counteract each other. Why not just put the GFCI in the existing box then wire everything to the load side of the GFCI, then everything (inside and out) would be protected
